I bought and used a ton because the "Meat Maker" gun can be extremely powerful with a magazine mod as its primary drawback is the single shot clip. I haven't seen bolts for sale for most of play game.
They also penetrate all but the heaviest of armor. Mobile, quick to fire, with decent range, and decent damage. I seem to have exhausted my entire Wasteland world map of bolt ammo. Assault rifles are the wasteland all-rounders.
